Evenly throughout the day
It’s best to drink steadily throughout the day, a couple of glasses every couple of hours. Late in the evening, you shouldn’t fill up on fluids, as a need to pee can affect your night’s sleep.
Even in summer, it is not necessary to carry a water bottle. At the very least, you should not consume a bottle of water at once, because then you will quickly have to pee and go to the toilet frequently. There is also no need to drink water all the time. The same applies to short sports activities – even then, it is enough to drink only after a run or a gym session.
Vänni recommends water for a drink and low-fat milk for a meal. Water should also be drunk with dry drinks such as coffee and alcohol.
You can drink flavoured waters and you can flavour the water yourself and keep a jug in the fridge.
«If you get bored of drinking water, you can conscientiously drink flavoured water. You can also drink juice, as long as it doesn’t contain too much sugar.»
You can also make a jug of flavoured water in the fridge by adding cucumber and fresh mint to the water. The water will keep well in the fridge all day as long as the container is clean and you don’t drink the water directly from the jug. You can drink cold water if it doesn’t irritate your mouth or make your teeth chatter.
The water also keeps in the bottle on the table at room temperature. You can then pour a glass of it.
Dry the bottle with the cap open to keep it clean without constant washing.
«You can use the same cup all day, even if you run it under running water from time to time. It’s also a good idea to rinse the water bottle between refills. When the bottle is empty, keep the cap open to allow the bottle to dry out and clean itself,» says Vänni.
