
It is not necessary or advisable to put everything in your stomach as water. It is sufficient to drink about half of the recommended amount of fluid, as the other half comes from food. In summer, tomatoes and cucumbers are preferable because they provide a lot of water.
«As an adult, we usually get thirsty at some point during the day, and that’s when we realise we need to drink. Children and the elderly may not notice that they are thirsty, so you can encourage them to drink,» says Vänni.
You only need to fill up with more water in really hot and humid weather, when the temperature can reach almost 40 degrees Celsius. Even on a typical Finnish summer day, you need to make up for dehydration by drinking.
