
7. Dental cavities
The main cause of tooth decay is, of course, the sugar itself (like most artificial sweeteners in «diet» sodas), but it’s the acid in carbonated beverages that damages tooth enamel and makes it vulnerable to the decay-causing bacteria that thrive in sugar.

8. Damage to tooth enamel
Most often, fizzy drinks have a colour consistent with the product that is supposedly present in the drink. The acid leading to tooth and gum disease is phosphoric acid, which is used to preserve this color. The funny thing is that there are also transparent drinks that logically should be harmless – but are not: phosphoric acid is also used to keep them transparent.
