7. Jumby Bay Island
If you’re seeking over-the-top luxury on Antigua, look no further than Jumby Bay Island. For a pretty penny, you can bask on this small private islet 2 miles off the northeast coast of Antigua and soak up the rays on its powdery white sands. Despite its cost, recent guests thought their money was well-spent: With spectacular vistas and top-notch service, visitors had very few complaints. As for digs, Jumby Bay’s suites feature four-poster beds, private courtyards, wraparound terraces and outdoor showers.

8. Casa de Campo Resort & Villas
This 7,000-acre La Romana resort (about 45 miles southwest of downtown Punta Cana) is not set on the beach like other Dominican Republic retreats, but Casa de Campo makes up for it with an array of on-site pursuits. The property features three Pete Dye-designed, 18-hole golf courses, including the challenging and highly acclaimed Teeth of the Dog course. If you’re not much of a golfer, other daytime activities abound, including tennis, horseback riding, clay shooting and water sports like kayaking and sailing.
