Indianapolis
#5 in Best Weekend Getaways in the Midwest
Petrolheads with a few days to spare will want to visit Indianapolis to check out the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500 and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. But families will find plenty to see and do here, too. The city houses the world’s largest children’s museum, plus a zoo and Lucas Oil Stadium, where the Indianapolis Colts play. There are also multiple cultural attractions, including Newfields, a large campus where the Indianapolis Museum of Art and several green spaces reside. On particularly warm days, save time for exploring the Central Canal, which bisects Indianapolis.

Minneapolis – St. Paul
#6 in Best Weekend Getaways in the Midwest
The side-by-side cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul provide no shortage of attractions for visitors to marvel over. Travelers can spend the weekend perusing the exhibits at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, attending productions at the Guthrie Theater or getting a dose of local history at sights like the Minnesota State Capitol and the Minnesota History Center. On warm, sunny days, visitors will also want to take advantage of Minnesota’s natural beauty by going for a stroll through the Chain of Lakes byway district or Minnehaha Park, which sits a few miles south of the Twin Cities’ downtown areas.
