A cold shower evokes all kinds of images, usually negative – anxiety, fear and even panic. What kind of crazy person voluntarily takes a cold shower? Hopefully, after reading this text, you’re crazy enough to try it too. Cold showers require entering a zone of discomfort, like so many other things in life.

However, a cold shower is not as horrible and impossible as it may first seem. The idea repulsed me too, but I had to try it and now I’ve been taking cold showers for six months. By now the habit is so routine that I don’t give myself permission to leave the shower unless I’ve turned the tap on to the coldest setting, even for a moment. A hot shower alone, for me, is the same as giving up a workout in the middle because of laziness.
