
First aid:
Cool the puncture site with a cold compress and lay it to rest to prevent the poison from spreading more widely. Do not scratch the injection site.
Remove the bee sting from the skin as soon as possible.
If the sting is caused by a bee, use tweezers to remove the sting as soon as possible to prevent the venom from penetrating the skin.
If you have an allergic reaction, take antihistamines and cortisone tablets, for example from a viper’s box, as a first aid. If the sting has hit the mouth, throat or neck, seek medical attention quickly as there is a risk of airway obstruction. You should also see a doctor if you have a small child, are pregnant or an elderly person in poor health.
Kyu bite
The viper is the only poisonous snake in Finland. If a viper bites you may experience pain, swelling and redness at the bite site. Some people may experience more serious symptoms such as nausea, headache, vomiting and diarrhoea.
First aid:
Do not touch the bite site. Do not touch the bite site. If the bite is on a limb, it should be splinted. Avoid any unnecessary movement, so carry the victim away from the scene. Keep the limb elevated to control swelling.
If you have been bitten by a viper, avoid unnecessary movement.
A viper bite requires effective treatment, so seek medical attention as soon as possible. As a first aid measure, you can take a packet of cortisone tablets, although they contain very little cortisone. Do not take NSAIDs as they will make the symptoms worse and may interfere with kidney function.
