4. Check for signs of bursitis. Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa, which is a small pocket of fluid located above the joint that protects it. Under normal circumstances, the bursa contains a small amount of fluid, but when an injury occurs, it becomes inflamed and causes a lot of pain, leading to bursitis. Usually, it occurs due to activities involving repetitive motion with the arm. The pain usually resolves within a few weeks and the inflammation resolves, although it may take longer. It will also gradually improve.
The area affected by bursitis looks inflamed, turns red, and can be injured if the button is pressed.
Bursitis accompanied by injury to the wound may lead to infection and therefore require antibiotics.
